Warhammer 40K: does the librarian space marine EPISTOLARY upgrade need a special piece?

Okay, so i'm playing space marines. what i want to know is whether the epistolary upgrade for the librarian needs me to but anything special for the upgrade, of can i just declare he is an epistolary?

for example, i need to to show a unit has a certain weapon, such as a storm bolter instead of a boltgun. is it the same with the epistolary upgrade?Warhammer 40K: does the librarian space marine EPISTOLARY upgrade need a special piece?
Like ringking said, it's the same model - it's true that normally a piece of wargear has to be evident on the model for it to count in official games, but in the case of an upgrade like turning your librarian into an epistolary, all you have to do is declare that at the beginning of the game and make sure the proper points have been allotted in your army list.

If you want, if you're always going to be using him as an epistolary, you could potentially paint a little bit of extra detail on him, indicating his difference in rank from other librarians.Warhammer 40K: does the librarian space marine EPISTOLARY upgrade need a special piece?
You could use Codex Astartes markings: the pauldron symbol is open book and the tabard has a skull and a halo - see the link to Insignium Astartes I provided...Warhammer 40K: does the librarian space marine EPISTOLARY upgrade need a special piece?
its the same model, you dont need to make any changes.
