Which space marine chapter should I play?

Hey everyone. I recently became interested in Warhammer 40K. After deciding on a race (space marines), I have to decide what chapter to play. At first I thought Ultramarines, because they look cool and are fairly balanced, but then again, ya know, everybody and his brother who plays space marines seems to play the ultras. Anyone have any suggestions?Which space marine chapter should I play?
It depends on what you want your Marines to do. Do you want them to excel at hand to hand melee (Blood Angels)? How about being really fast and good with shooting (Dark Angels)? Alot of character (Space Wolves)? Religious zealots that won't surrender (Black Templars)? Or use the drawbacks and advantages in the codex to use a less common chapter (Salamanders, Imperial Fists, and White Scars are a few)

Ultramarines are popular/common because they are a "codex" chapter. They literally "wrote the book" on how to organize into chapters and fight. Then again, you can always renounce the Corpse Emperor and join Chaos. We always have room for new recruits in the Word Bearers.
