Just bought a Space marine battleforce and just have a few questions about it.
1) With the scout squad and assault squad, what is the best weapon loadout or what are the advantages and disadvantages of the different options?
2) With the extra 5 man combat squad, does it count as a separate tac squad and if so, does it get a sergeant and/or heavy weapon?
Also if it helps, I play as Blood Angels and my friend that i play against the most is a tyranid player. ThanksHow should i set up my space marine battleforce?
So from what I know, it comes with a Rhino, fifteen Tactical Marines, a five-man Scout Squad and an Assault Squad.
1) If I were taking scouts, I'd equip them with a missile launcher rather than a heavy bolter. Since they can infiltrate, there's a chance that you'd be able to set them up behind enemy lines and hopefully nab the rear armour of a battle tank (usually an AV of 10).
However, since you're playing against Tyranids (as far as I'm aware they don't have a lot of armour), a heavy bolter with hellfire rounds might be better. I'm not sure about how it works because I've never actually used it and don't have my codex on hand.
If possible, I would equip the assault squad sergeant with a power sword and either a plasma pistol or a shield.
2) Since you already have a full ten-man Tactical Squad, the extra five men must form a separate Tactical Squad. However, under the 5th Edition SM codex rules, I'm fairly sure you need to have at least ten men in your total squad to equip them with heavy weapons.
So you're stuck with an extra four marines and a Sergeant; if you have some extra bits you can give him chainsword and bolt pistol, but I don't think he actually has to look any strikingly different from the rest of the marines (just make sure you add something to make sure your opponent knows who the sergeant is). No additional heavy or special weapons.
I used to take the good 'ol five-man squad with a lascannon/plasma gun under third and fourth editions, but alas this is no more...
